The Classes

Our Icelandic Horse classes are designed to accommodate riders of all levels, from beginners to advanced enthusiasts. Whether you're new to competition or looking to show off your skills we have something for everyone including oval track classes, dressage, track and trail and of course the beer tolt! We will also be offering classes for virtual entrants so everyone can join in.

Tölt

All tölt classes start with the letter T followed by a number.

In all T classes you will only need to show tölt, returning to walk for changes of rein.

Some classes are ridden with other competitors on the track at the same time known as a group class (test), and others are ridden with a single competitor on the track known as a individual class (test).

Four Gait

All four gait classes start with the letter V followed by a number.

In all V classes you will need to show, walk, trot, tölt and canter

Some classes are ridden with other competitors on the track at the same time known as a group class (test), and others are ridden with a single competitor on the track known as a individual class (test).

Five Gait and Pace

All five gait classes start with the letter F followed by a number. Pace classes start with either P or PP

In all F classes you will need to show, walk, trot, tölt, canter and pace.

Oval Track

Gaited tests that have walk, trot, tölt, canter and sometimes pace are ridden on an oval track. The performance of horse and rider is judged, mainly through the quality of the gaits. If you have never ridden on an oval track the first time can be a little scary but, never fear we have a 'what to expect' guide here.
