Rules and Junior Entry to the Scottish Open for The Icelandic Horse

Equine Influenza Guidance for Junior Entries

Please do not attend if your horse is showing any signs of illness.

To help keep all horses and riders safe at the Scottish Open for The Icelandic Horse, we are taking extra precautions due to the current Equine Influenza situation across the country.

All junior competitors must be entered by a parent or guardian, and we ask that you help your young rider understand these simple steps to keep everyone safe.

Vaccination Requirements

We strongly recommend that all equines attending the event are vaccinated against Equine Influenza. After the initial vaccination course, horses should receive annual boosters, ideally within six months of the event.

To complete a junior entry, you must upload an image of your horse’s passport vaccination page using the upload section provided. This is essential to confirm that your horse is up to date with regular Equine Influenza vaccinations. Entries cannot be accepted without this evidence.

Keeping Everyone Safe

Please help your junior rider follow these simple guidelines:

  • Keep horses apart: Do not allow horses to touch noses or make direct contact.
  • Check your horse’s health: Take your horse’s temperature regularly, especially before the event, so you can spot any changes early.
  • Avoid touching other horses: If your junior rider needs to be near another horse, please use hand sanitiser before returning to your own.

When Not to Attend

Please do not bring your horse to the event if:

  • They are showing any signs of illness
  • You have recently been in contact with horses that have become unwell
  • Your yard, neighbouring yards, or grazing facilities are under restrictions due to illness

We ask all parents, guardians, and junior riders to act responsibly, follow veterinary advice, and help us maintain a safe and enjoyable event for everyone.

Thank you for helping us keep the Scottish Open for The Icelandic Horse In‑Person Event safe for all horses and riders.
