The Scottish Open  non-alcoholic beverage Tölt (Beer Tölt)

In Iceland Beer and horses go together, sometimes very literally.

The Beer Tölt, is an Icelandic riding game, the aim is to prove the smoothness of the horse’s Tölt and the steady hands of the rider.

Horse and rider Tölt once around the oval track, the rider must stay as still as possible in the saddle while holding a tankard full of beer in one hand without spilling.  The rider who spills the least, is deemed the winner and may drink their tankard.

In Scotland the national drink is whisky however, we thought a tankard full of whiskey might be too much to swallow! So we have opted for tankards filled with the other un-official non-alcoholic beverage of Scotland, the one that is carbonated, orange, has it's own tartan and contains a small about of Fe.......... Riders collect their drop safe 'tankard' filled with the non-alcoholic beverage, once all riders are ready they complete one lap of the oval track in Tölt, the remaining liquid in the 'tankards' is then measured, whoever has the most liquid remaining is then the winner.

We also double up the non-alcoholic beverage Tölt with Fancy Dress.
